Job Description:

This is a Clinical Social Worker psychotherapist position within Behavioral Health Interdisciplinary Program’s (BHIP) Trauma Recovery Services (TRS) at the Portsmouth Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC). Trauma Recovery Services focuses on treating trauma from the lifespan (e.g., combat, MST, childhood) using skill based, recovery-focused direct patient care for trauma-related mental health issues. Individual, Group, Couples/Family, and Psychoeducation are provided in an outpatient setting with Veterans diagnosed with PTSD. Additionally, social workers in this clinic conduct diagnostic evaluations and comprehensive treatment planning to Veterans referred to the program. The team uses Evidenced Based Psychotherapies (EBPs) such as Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) and Prolonged Exposure (PE), as well as psychoeducation and skills groups (e.g. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Skills Training for Affect and Interpersonal Regulation (STAIR), Mindfulness, Anger Management) for treatment of PTSD. This program provides specialty PTSD treatment to the CBOCs in Portsmouth, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, and Elizabeth City (Albemarle) Outpatient Clinic.

Qualification & Experience:

Have a master’s degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the school of social work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master’s degree in social work.
